Salamanca

Salamanca is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, is known for its monuments and its University, the oldest in the country. Salamanca is a city that has a stunning world-class monuments, and with a few sights that captivate visitors.​

Amazing sandstone buildings, Renaissance architecture, spacious squares (including the Plaza Mayor that is essential for its inhabitants and tourists) descend on the city. Visit this square, dating from the eighteenth century, and admire the many palace buildings that surround it, including the city hall. The cuisine is enviable: there are a good selection of tapas bars and good restaurants.

Much of northern Spain belongs to Castile and Leon, an autonomous region surrounded by mountains. Architectural gems like the Roman bridge of Salamanca, the Gothic cathedral of Burgos, and the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca are complemented by the natural beauty of the whole autonomous region. The Natural Park of Sickles Duratón River is dotted with deep gorges and is home to many birds of prey, while the Parque Natural del Lago de Sanabria and surroundings have the largest glacier lake in the Iberian peninsula.​
